Before you apply, please keep in mind:

  • New members apply to join a specific chapter. In the application you will be able to indicate your top choice, as well as your backup chapters, if any.

  • In addition to our general works-in-progress chapters, documentarians can also apply to join our documentary-focused Docshop chapters.

  • For all chapters, we ask that you be actively working on a project you’d like to workshop with the group. (Questions about what this means? Read more here.)

  • In addition to filling out this application form, applicants may be asked to speak with a current Filmshop member via a phone or video call for an informal interview.

  • Filmshop members are expected to miss no more than 4 meetings per season (out of 15 total). Meetings take place on weeknights, either from 7:00 to 9:30pm ET or from 7:30 to 10:00PM ET, depending on the chapter.

  • Dues for the season are $175 upon acceptance. We also offer financial aid for those who are unemployed or underemployed; priority is given to artists from communities that are underrepresented in the industry. If you are interested in applying for discounted fees, you will be able to request a financial aid form once accepted.
