Synopsis
HAGS (Have A Great Summer!) is a horror-comedy series about friendship, grief, queer love, and the true meaning of justice. We meet our hero, Edie Sullivan, a college-aged, failed Olympic swimmer and Chatham, Massachusetts townie who's struggling after her mother's mysterious disappearance. To escape the Cape and move to Boston, she's robbing beach vacation homes to save up for an apartment deposit... and she's quite good at it.
At least that's the plan, until she meets Abby, who's also grieving after the seemingly-similar disappearance of her girlfriend. Abby's convinced that all of the town's disappearances are connected, and willing to do whatever it takes to get to the bottom of it. Through relationship building (and a little light kidnapping), she gets Edie on board to connect the dots between their two cases and solve the mystery of what’s happening in Chatham.
As they spend time together, their friendship transcends the investigation and grows into a more intimate kind of care. For the first time, they’ve found someone who understands their experience of ambiguous loss and is willing to listen. Although they each come from different backgrounds, classes, races, and gender identities, Edie and Abby find themselves in each other. Together, they forge a new perspective that challenges their parents' narrow vision of New England values.
Each HAGS season takes place over the summer (running Memorial Day to Labor Day), and asks the audience: how can we break through our current power structures to raise a new generation of leaders?
