Documentary Feature

Title: Agent Orange Gagetown

Project Status: In Production

Logline

A filmmaker investigates the mystery behind his grandfather’s early death and his sister’s paralysis, and discovers the ongoing cover-up of a pesticide program by the US and Canadian militaries along with chemical companies Dow and Monsanto. He journeys to their mother’s hometown and finds wounded American and Canadian troops, the Widows on a Warpath, and outraged locals who fight a still active toxic threat.

Synopsis

The beautiful pastoral provinces of Maritime Canada feature vast forests, sandy beaches, towering cliffs, some of the prettiest towns in the country, and a dark secret. On a visit from New York City to New Brunswick for a family reunion, Daniel Feighery learns of a newly revealed controversy–the cover-up of toxic chemicals at Base Gagetown, where Daniel's grandfather Freddie served in the Army. Was he killed by the Agent Orange sprayed on Base by the US military? Was Theresa Feighery, Daniel's sister, paralyzed by their mother’s exposure at Gagetown as a child? Or is it all just conspiracy theories? A $20,000 compensation check sparks Daniel to go to Canada, where he investigates the political and corporate interests behind the cover-up, alongside harmful effects of pesticides like Agent Orange, Agent White and Roundup. Veterans tell Daniel that the Base is still contaminated, where American and Canadian troops conduct training. Locals show where whole neighborhoods seemed to succumb to cancer overnight. Scientists explain how pesticides affect the health of people and our environment. Collaborating with widows affected by Gagetown, Daniel pushes for justice and exposes the truth through media appearances and parliamentary testimonies. The film also explores ongoing lawsuits against pesticide companies and the activism of the next generation, represented by the Gagetown BRATS. Ultimately, the Feighery family's unity strengthens as they fight for accountability and justice.
